Hot Feet When Exercising – Tips To Soothe The Heat
Did your New Year's resolution include a plan to get more active and fit this year? Are you having a hard time sticking with it because your feet get hot when you walk, run or ride that exercise bike? Hot feet can cause a lot of people to stop doing what they're doing right – exercising. Here, you'll find a few things to try to eliminate your hot feet and keep them as comfortable as possible so that you can continue your venture to a healthier you.
Get New Shoes
If your shoes don't allow your feet to breathe, your feet will get hot. Look for shoes that are made of a breathable mesh material – not leather. With each step you take, the air will be pulled into the shoe and your feet will get a bit cooler.
Make sure that your shoes fit your feet right. If the shoes fit too tightly, there won't be the space your feet need to breathe. If they're too big, they'll cause your feet to slip around inside and cause friction, which will heat your feet up even more.
Athletic insoles can help to cushion your feet and make loose-fitting shoes fit a little snugger. Some insoles are designed to be breathable and/or wick away moisture from your feet.
Choose the Right Socks
If you're wearing the cotton socks that most people do, those socks may be contributing to your hot feet problem. Cotton holds sweat and causes your feet to stay wet once they begin to sweat. Look for socks made to wick away the sweat and keep your feet cool.
Soothing Hot Feet
While you work to find a permanent solution to your hot feet, sooth them – don't give up on your efforts to get healthier.
Soak your feet in cool water for a few minutes after you've been out exercising.
Don't wear your socks and shoes after you're done exercising. Get them off and get your feet clean and dry as quickly as possible.
Talk with your doctor. There are some health conditions that can cause your feet to feel hot. Some vitamin deficiencies can contribute, as well as low blood flow and diabetes. If making the above changes doesn't soothe your symptoms, a call to the doctor is in order.
Hopefully, the above tips will help you soothe your hot feet and get you back on track to a healthier you this year. Visit a local New Balance shoe store to find the right shoes and socks for your needs.
